I guess I just don't understand how a studio invests millions into a gorgeous, high-effort, incredibly time-consuming movie, and apparently nobody in the dubbing production or QA process raised a hand to say "hey, some of these sentences just don't make grammatical sense?" Some of the lines also have really awkward, stilted pauses as they just aren't written in a way that matches the characters' mouth flaps and the VAs are left to make the best of it: Misato and the bridge bunnies seem particularly bad for this. kind of incoherent? Or at least ungrammatical? Like Ritsuko referring to Paris as "the renowed city of flower" or Gendou talking about how humanity will "enjoy eternity existence". Unfortunately, every 10 minutes or so while watching the dub, I get taken out of the experience completely by a sentence that's just. In my - very subjective - opinion it closed out a lot of the character arcs in a satisfying way and the visuals are beautiful. I actually really like (most of) the movie.
